Appointment of new WERC Chairman

John Wisbey has been appointed Chairman of the Wentworth Estate Roads Committee with effect from 16th February 2017.  He replaces Dr. Sunil Liyanage who had been the Chairman since 2015.

Commenting on the appointment, John made the following statement:

“It is a great honour to be invited to lead the Wentworth Estate Roads Committee, which is a statutory body set up under a 1964 Act of Parliament.  Wentworth is a very special community, and the challenge is balancing the wishes of residents to preserve a beautiful environment and to maintain the Estate and its roads well, while recognising that development of old houses and renovation is an important part of keeping the Estate beautiful in decades to come.  The Wentworth community has been challenged in the last two years by issues around the Wentworth Club.  WERC has stayed scrupulously neutral on those issues, seeking only to reflect residents’ wishes to achieve a fairer contribution by the Club and the PGA European Tour to the Estate’s costs.  I see it as an important priority to end the current dispute on agreeable terms, and to restore harmony with both the Club and the PGA European Tour.

I would like to thank my predecessor Sunil Liyanage for his wise and capable leadership of the Committee in the last two years at a difficult time and I look forward to working with residents and the WERC's excellent staff over the next few years”.
