Parking in Virginia Water Village

Following Runnymede Borough Council’s (RBC) highly imprudent sale of Bourne car park in 2017 - contrary to the advice of the local community - the problematic shortage in parking capacity continues to be a major issue for both residents and retailers, some of which have suffered severe commercial consequences, in Virginia Water.

Whilst RBC was persuaded by the WRA to expand the capacity at the Memorial Gardens car park, it has not compensated for the significant loss of Bourne car park and parking capacity is becoming an increasing issue in Virginia Water. This issue will continue to escalate as RBC supports the development of Longcross - as well as other new residential developments - without due diligence of local infrastructure necessities.

Last week, RBC’s Leader - Cllr Nick Prescott - attended the WRA’s monthly Executive Committee meeting at which the ongoing shortage of parking was raised again. Cllr Prescott informed that RBC was working on a potential solution that would be announced shortly. Hopefully, this will happen sooner rather than later!
