Virginia Water Local Plan and Neighbourhood Plan Update
VIRGINIA WATER LOCAL PLAN AND NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN

LOCAL PLAN

Over the past 5 years, the Wentworth Residents Association (WRA) have campaigned robustly against Runnymede Borough Council’s (RBC) ill-conceived Local Plan proposing +10,000 new houses within a 5 miles radius of the Wentworth Estate including a significant loss of precious Green Belt. Further, this proposed development has not been supported by any fortification of essential infra-structure.

RBC’s Local Plan is being reviewed by an Inspector – appointed by Government – to judge the soundness of the Plan. There have already been two round of hearings, during which the WRA was represented by an eminent QC. The Inspector has delayed the third and final hearing until RBC clarifies some fundamental issues that the WRA and other stakeholders have raised.

Despite a number of senior members, including the Head of Planning, departing the RBC, it is attempting to remedy its serious shortcomings and to produce a more sound Plan for approval by the Inspector.

NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN

You may know that a Neighbourhood Forum has been set up in Virginia Water in order to prepare a Neighbourhood Plan for the village. This is really important in these days of development pressures as it is an opportunity for local residents to have a real voice in the local planning policy.

In order for the Neighbourhood Forum to understand what are the key issues which residents want the Neighbourhood Plan to address, a questionnaire has been prepared and it can be accessed at http://virginiawaterplan.org. Please do take the time to consider the questionnaire and provide your views, as soon as possible. It will be very valuable to have your views.

It would also be great if you could pass this email on to any of your friends, or others you know, who live or work in Virginia Water so they know where to access the questionnaire too.
